ABOUT MARENA
Hi! I’m a Swiss-American, multiple award-winning singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, composer, performer, voice-over artist and vocal coach.With nearly two decades of experience as a voice teacher and vocal coach, working privately with complete beginners as well as teaching as a visiting professor at ZHdK, HKB and HSLU, I’m excited to help others discover the amazing things their voices can do. My lessons are playful, versatile and deeply empathic, shaped by my own creative curiosity and love for music. I love finding new ways for my students to free the voices they were born with, express their creativity and sing themselves happy.Here is a little more about my professional background: I earned a BA with distinction in Jazz Voice at ZHdK, an MA with distinction and an award in Music Pedagogy at ZHdK, as well as an MA in Music Performance and Composition at HKB. Throughout my career, I’ve performed at a wide range of venues, from the Gurten Festival (CH) and Boomtown Festival (UK) to the Zurich Opera House and the Grand Hall Siberia (RU).I have released four albums of original music and recorded studio work for film, TV and audio drama productions. Alongside music, I also enjoy working in creative fields at the edges of music, such as acting, directing, dancing and costume design.I’m equally at home in German and English. What can I expect to learn in the lessons?
Each lesson is tailored to your needs, goals, and interests. We build a healthy and sustainable singing technique through breath control and vocal support, so you can sing safely and with ease. From there, we can explore vocal technique in depth, expand your vocal colors, learn new songs, experiment with different musical styles, dive into music theory, ear training, improvisation, performance skills, or even songwriting. The focus is entirely up to you.What do you pay special attention to when teaching?
I want lessons to feel open and joyful. There’s always space to ask as many questions as you like, experiment, and grow your awareness of your voice and body.What are your teaching days?
I teach on Tuesdays from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on Wednesdays from 8:15 AM to 8:15 PM.How often do lessons take place?
With the discounted CHF 1300 subscription, lessons are held weekly at a reserved time slot to ensure steady progress. If you prefer more flexibility instead of weekly lessons, you can book single lessons for CHF 150 each and we’ll schedule them individually, though I can’t guarantee a fixed time or regularity in that case.How do I pay for my trial lesson?
Once you book your lesson, I’ll get in touch with all the details about payment, course conditions, and what you’d like to focus on in our first session.What is the policy for missed single lessons?
A lesson that is missed or cancelled less than 48 hours in advance is considered completed.Are scores and sheet music included?
I maintain a large collection of scores which I am happy to provide free of charge. If you need additional scores that aren’t in my collection, they must be purchased at your own expense.
